Retroperitoneal Hematoma Collection after the Performance of Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy
Lee June-Ho

Abstract
A 20-year-old male presented with severe left leg sciatica since conscripted to the armed forces a year ago. Purely diagnosed as herniated disc disease at L3-4 level, the author simply performed conventional transforaminal percutaneous endoscopic disc removal, which yielded improvement of his leg sciatica immediately after the procedure. However, several hours later after the procedure, the patients complained of severe flank and periumbilical pain associated with left hip flexor weakness, which later explicited to be induced by retroperitoneal, peri-psoas muscle hematoma collection. A small revisional surgery for hematoma removal ensued and patient promptly recovered from his later symptom. The author report about a possible, but frequently neglected or missed complication of retroperitoneal space hematoma collection followed by percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy procedure. Its causative mechanism and preventive measures are also suggested.
